XWidget is a superb free desktop gadget application for Windows
Some of the biggest drawbacks of Windows 10, is the fact that Microsoft removed a lot of useful features.
Windows 7 gadgets can be a lot more than a pretty interface for your clock or news feed. Several Windows 7 gadgets exist solely as monitoring tools that show constantly updated data about your system resources like CPU, memory, hard drive, and network usage.
One of these is Desktop Gadgets, more commonly known as widgets, by smartphone users today.

Fortunately there is a way to get the original Windows 7 Gadgets back in Windows 10. But what about custom Widgets? Wouldn’t you like to have one of the widgets featured on this article? It includes an Ubuntu Clock, an Android Clock, an iPhone Clock and more. All widgets are animated which makes it quite incredible too.
It is possible due to a superb app called XWidget, which is a free program. And it works with Windows 10. The biggest plus is that the application has a “More Widgets” option. This lets you download more widgets, obviously, right from the app.
There are tons of options to choose from including adding a sidebar, desktop gauges for CPU, RAM, battery and more. And you can customize the downloaded widgets to your liking. You can set the size (Zoom), opacity, etc. If you have the skills, you can create your own widgets too. Simply use the built-in create widget option, which will let you use the XWidget Designer.
And if this isn’t enough, you can download widgets created by others from DevianArt too. There is a dashboard mode built in the app, which lets you add, manage and reposition widgets with ease.
There is one con though, well in fact it is quite major con. XWidget, unfortunately has ads, multiple ads in the app’s interface, but only in the “More Widgets” screen. This is actually a gallery app called XwidgetGallery.exe, which does not run in the background. It only runs when you choose to add more widgets.

There are no ads placed on your desktop though. So if you can tolerate that, the app is quite a good one. We have scanned the app using some antivirus applications, and XWidget is perfectly safe. Should you wish, you can block the ads using an app like Adguard, speaking of which, Adguard 6 was recently launched.
How to block ads in XWidget?
Blacklist the XwidgetGallery.exe in Adguard > Settings > Filtered Apps, and you are good to go.
Download XWidgets for free from the official website. It is merely an 8mb download. The program runs on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7,8 and Windows 10.
There is an Android app too, of the same name, if you want to have a similar experience on your phone.
